Sterling silver, struck in France by a house that has been making medals since 1906. Mary stands upon the world with the serpent beneath her feet — the image she asked to be placed on the medal, rendered in the traditional form she described.
Small enough to wear every day. Substantial enough that you know it's there.
The story of the Miraculous Medal begins in a Paris chapel in 1830, when the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to St. Catherine Labouré and asked her to have a medal made according to what she had seen. The first medals were struck in 1832. Within years, millions were being worn, and the medal had become known simply as the Miraculous Medal.
This one is struck in Saumur, in France's Loire Valley, in a workshop with a medal-making heritage dating back to 1906 — the traditional way, between two steel dies. We went looking for someone who could tell us where their silver came from, and found a house that could.
